Mocel Mezcal Earns 95 Points from Wine Enthusiast
MOCEL’s Ensamble Expression has been awarded 95 points by Wine Enthusiast. For spirits enthusiasts who follow ratings seriously, that number places Mocel Mezcal among an elite tier - one of the highest scores the publication assigns.
Mocel uses two ingredients - water and 100% agave - that's it. Mocel is proudly rooted in Michoacán, Mexico, the region UNESCO called the gold standard of Mexican gastronomy. Every batch is distilled in a Tarascan wooden still unique to Michoacán, using 400 years of mezcal artisanship.
No additives. No shortcuts. Small batches, limited bottles, and a flavor profile tied directly to the land it came from. No two bottles are identical because no two harvests are.
About the 95-Point Wine Enthusiast Rating
Wine Enthusiast has been the benchmark for spirits evaluation for over 40 years. Wine Enthusiast reviews thousands of wines and spirits a year and only a few are highly rated. Their expert reviewers run blind tastings across thousands of submissions annually. Scores below 80 aren't published. A 95 is rare. A score of 95 carries an official designation: “Superb. A great achievement.” Superb - reserved for a small handful of submissions each year.
“Herbaceous, zesty and complex, this ensamble mezcal (made with a blend of agave varieties) opens with lively, mouthwatering lime peel, lemongrass and pine, winding into rosemary and tarragon midpalate. The long exhale finishes with cubeb pepper and pink peppercorn snap.” 582 bottles were produced. That’s the entire run. ”
MOCEL Mezcal's Track Record
The Wine Enthusiast score isn't a standalone moment. Mocel Mezcal has earned Double Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition three consecutive years and Gold Medals at the Agave Awards and has been featured in Forbes.
For collectors tracking which spirit producers are consistently delivering at the highest level, Mocel is on that list.
