Mocel wins two prestigious mezcal awards: from Michoacan to the world stage
Honoring tradition, craftsmanship, and excellence since the brand launch.
We are proud and humbled to share that Mocel Mezcal Artesanal has earned Gold Medals from two of the most respected spirits competitions in the world: the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) and the Agavos Awards. These distinctions mark a significant milestone for our family-rooted brand and affirm the exceptional quality and soul that define every bottle of Mocel.
In an industry filled with mass production and marketing noise, these honors validate what we've always known: that true excellence lies in patience, purpose, and the preservation of craft. This recognition is not just a win for us, it’s a tribute to the families in Michoacán, the sacred agave plant, and the generations of mezcaleros who have passed down their knowledge, not through textbooks, but through fire, earth, smoke, and time.
What do these awards mean
To receive gold medals from both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the Agavos Awards in the same season is a rare and profound honor. Each of these competitions is known for its rigor, prestige, and discerning panels of judges, making the recognition even more meaningful for a small-batch artisanal brand like ours. The SFWSC, established in 2000, is one of the longest-running and most respected spirits competitions in the world. Its blind tasting process is conducted by industry legends, master distillers, mixologists, journalists, and educators who evaluate thousands of entries based purely on quality. A gold medal from SFWSC indicates that a spirit is not only outstanding, but among the best in its category.
Meanwhile, the Agavos Awards, though more specialized, carry immense weight within the world of agave spirits. Unlike broader competitions, the Agavos Awards focus solely on tequila, mezcal, raicilla, and other agave-based drinks. Their judging process emphasizes authenticity, terroir, and technique. A gold medal from Agavos represents mastery in the delicate balance of tradition and innovation within the agave world. Together, these two honors reflect the extraordinary nature of Mocel and how it speaks both to global palates and to connoisseurs of Mexican craft. They confirm that our dedication to traditional methods and heritage has created something truly exceptional.
Culture in every sip
Mocel honors Michoacán’s mezcal tradition with 400 years of craftsmanship in every bottle. Made in small batches with no additives, it showcases unique agave varieties that create delicate and complex flavors
What makes Mocel different
Our mezcal is born in the mountains of Michoacán, Mexico, a region known for its untamed landscapes, rich volcanic soil, and time-honored mezcal traditions. Every bottle of Mocel is made from agaves like Ineaquidens, harvested by hand after growing undisturbed for 15 to 25 years. These agaves are then slowly roasted in underground, earthen ovens, naturally fermented in open-air wooden vats, and double-distilled in small wooden stills.
Mocel crafts spirits from simple ingredients, traditional techniques, and a commitment to integrity, not shortcuts. That means no artificial flavorings, no mass production: just pure mezcal made to be sipped slowly, shared meaningfully, and guided by Just a deep belief in letting nature speak through the spirit. The result? A mezcal that is refined, expressive, and complex, with notes of citrus peel, roasted agave, spice, and earth. A spirit that invites you to sip slowly, breathe deeply, and savor the story in every drop.
A story worth celebrating
We created Mocel for those who seek more than just a drink. For those who believe in supporting independent producers, in preserving cultural traditions, and in choosing quality over quantity. For those who want to taste something real. We invite you to raise a glass with us. Not just to celebrate awards, but to celebrate what they stand for.
